Week 2: The Arrival
What is up everyone! I finally made it to the Mexico CCM and it is everything I imagined it would be. I arrived at the MTC around 5pm on Tuesday and by the time we went through initiative and put our luggage into our house, we got to go to dinner. Dinner ends around 8:30 and we got there around 8:15. All the pizza was gone so my first supper was some nice fruit loops and a roll hahaha. Anyways, I love it here so far. The CCM is smack down in mexico city so I i fall to sleep to the sound of cars honking, loud speakers, and an occasional gun shot or two. I genuinely love my companion. He loves to study spanish and to follow the rules and i kinda like to study spanish and i kinda like to follow the rules. jk jk but fr tho we equal each other out. I bring out his fun crazy side and he brings out my serious focus up side. Our house has 26 elders in our house and my favorite part of the day is singing hyms in spanish with them for the night devotionals.
I gotta see Elder Lords and Elder Johnson which was so great. They both already been here for so long so they already pros at the whole missionary thing. My district is getting along great and I have already made some lifelong friends. The first half of my day is doctrine class which is great. I always feel super confident and feel super prepared during every lesson. My second half of the day is spanish class. I am not confident during those classes tho. Spanish hasnt clicked for me yet and i get super frustrated. To my amaze i somehow always have an experience or a talk with someone that weathers the storm. For example we had a little workshop where we learned about the gift of tounges. I learned that the gift of toungues is not just for the missionaries. The Lord is going to bless the people i am going to teach with the gift of tounges to understand me. The Lord is trusting me to put in the work to learn a new language just so i can have a conversation with that one person that needs to hear my messsage. That one person will make all the classes and study hours worth it. One more example is a conversation i had with my spanish teacher. I was telling him my spanish vocabulary is basically nothing. What he told me is going to help me through my entire mission. He told me the reason missionaries are so effective is because their vocabulary is so limited. This makes the missionaries rely on the spirit and small simple testimonies. The gospel can become complex at times but this made me realize the gospel can be something so beautiful and simple. The spirit really is so strong here and it grows each day. Elder Burrup is not feeling great so we gave him a blessing. I have never been apart of such a strong blessing. The priesthood is so powerful and we are very lucky to have it on the earth.
The hard work and strict schedule has not kept us from having fun. I wanna tell you guys two funny things that happened this week. Two nights ago we were all getting ready for bed. I was the last one who was still in my suit when I walked in for district prayer with the boys. I told them all that I received revelation that we should all sleep in our suits. I was completely joking and everyone knew that. Or so I thought. Anyways about 20 minutes later i hear a group of boys laughing walking to my room. It was Elder Dodds completely in his suit. He thought i was being serious and put all his church clothes back on hahahahah everyone was dying of laughter. I love Elder Dodds. Second funny thing is some boys in my district got locked out of their dorms. The recepcion office is a long walk so they did not want to go get another key. Thankfully some random elder in our house overheard our conversation and had a tiny screw driver. So we went outside and unscrewed the entire window pane and hopped through the window. So dang funny.
God loves you and so do I. Keep the prayers coming and i hope you all have a great week.
