Week 9: Life's Good

Buenos Días from Chile! I'm starting to get the hang of things here. This past week I've felt more comfortable with the language and everything honestly hahaha. I'm finally settling in and starting to enjoy the work. The month of September is a huge month of celebration for the Chileans. The 18th of September here is basically July 4th in the states. Music blasting from every house. Meat and bread cooking everywhere. Drunkies on every corner. It's a great time. Every lesson this week has ended with the investigator walking out of the kitchen with arms full of food for us. I'm definitely gonna be gaining weight here if I don't be careful. During lessons we will be teaching a lesson and my companion will just stop talking and look at me till I talk. At first I hated it cause I can barely talk and it was awkward. But I realized it has helped me so much and I'm gaining confidence. Now whenever he looks at me I'm ready and can usually talk about and add my thoughts to the lesson.

This week we had exchanges. It was super random and out of the blue. Anyways I got put in a trio with Elder Montez from Peru, and Elder Vilamaior from Brazil. Our area was called Cerro and it's the most dangerous area in Talcahuano but we had no problems at all. I spent a whole day and a night with them in Cerro. We were extremely successful. Idk if people were actually interested in the gospel or were just wondering why a Gringo, a Peruvian, and a Brazilian are walking around together hahaha. We had a lesson with a women that the missionaries have been teaching for a while. She enjoys the gospel but I guess has absolutely refused to even talk about baptism. Anyways during our lesson me and my two Latino companions had the feeling to ask her to be baptized. She sat and pondered for literally probably 5 minutes straight not saying a word. She then said she is going to pray about it. This was a huge miracle for us. She didn't say yes but she is going to pray about it. Progress baby. We planted the seed and the spirit is going to do the rest. That night we bought hamburger supplies from a little corner shop and cooked some hamburgers to celebrate.

We also had a mission conference this week. It was cool to see so many other missionaries serving in Concepción and I gotta meet and talk to most of them. Quick story, during the conference the presidents wife was talking. She was talking about prophets and randomly she said " alright I want a companionship to come and teach me a 2 minute lesson about prophets. I dont care who. Come on. Lets go". Sidenote she's saying all this in Spanish so I barely even know what's going on. Anyways she walks off the pulpet and sits on the front row. My companion shoots up from out of his seat and says come on let's go. Boy was I mad at him. Anyways I hesitantly walk up to the front of basically the entire mission. I open my mouth and I just start talking about prophets in Spanish. It wasn't much but I bore my testimony about the importance of a living Prophet on the earth today. Then my companion shared a scripture and we sat down. Presidents wife loved it and thanked us. Everyone knows i have 2 weeks in the mission and after the conference everyone was coming up and telling me good job. I'm happy my companion stood up. I'll put a pic of us teaching down below.

Mission is hard but good. My testimony and love for the Lord grows each day Hope everyone is doing good at home. God loves you and so do I.
